9.2: “Will’s Dream”
In which Will dreams of his family.

Welcome to Love Has Fangs, a mash-up of vampires, ghosts, cyborgs, deviant sexuality and sarcastic humor. New adventures come out every Monday, unless otherwise noted. There are two occasional off-plot supplements: Goofing Off and When No One's Watching. Either bookmark this site and check back obsessively, or get the LiveJournal feed.
If you have any complaints about the comic, blame me [ModernWizard]! I script, shoot and lay out each episode. I also own the entire cast, who are entirely original, semi-autobiographical characters, all embodied by 1:6 customized action figures and dolls.
Don't forget to leave a comment at the bottom of the latest episode. And visit the Blog of Eternal Stench for further silliness [including doll drama in a different scale] from the creator.

We’re back off our sabbatical!
Previously in our eternally compelling saga… Anneka visits mad scientist Janet, but is waylaid by aggressive, horny and lonely sex robot Viktor. Will tests his comfort level with gayness by attending a party with Mark thrown by collector of bad art and college boys, Kenneth Sibley. Mark explains that, even though he disapproves of Sibley, being nice to him maintains a connection that could be useful in the future; Will doesn’t get it. Over at Janet’s, Anneka asks Janet to rehumanize her, but Janet, still crushed by her failure to perfectly resurrect Velvette, demurs. Meanwhile Velvette, chafing under her sister’s electronic supervision, meets an equally mopey individual, Dom! Anneka and Will still aren’t listening to each other, Will preoccupied with Sibley’s interest in him, Anneka preoccupied with Janet’s attempts to bring her back to life. Will goes up in Sibley’s helicopter, then has drinks with him. Sibley wants to sponsor Will, but only if he does gay art. Will, in an amazing display of restraint, looks disturbed but acts polite. Will continues his lesbovamps.com work with Velvette as a model, though he himself acknowledges that he doesn’t understand “the heterosexual male mind.” Janet tells Anneka that the only way that she can turn Anneka human is to transfer her mind into a cyborg like Viktor. Will, meanwhile, dresses up as Frank N. Furter, enlisting Viktor as Rocky and Velvette as musician; the three rehearse for Will’s appearance in the Harvard Square Rocky Horror showing. Anyway, Anneka reports on Janet’s offer and Will reports on Sibley’s offer. Anneka decides not to become a cyborg, much to Will’s relief. Tension mounts as Viktor checks on Janet, who’s in danger. Viktor later calls Anneka and Will from the emergency room to say that he is guarding Janet, who tried to electrocute herself. But Velvette is missing! Will finds a use for the slimy Sibley after all; he and Anneka borrow Sibley’s chopper to search for Velvette. At the hospital, Janet is in stable condition with nanobots fixing her up. Anneka and Will watch over an exhausted Velvette as Viktor hits on Sibley. Anneka and Will reflect that it’s good Anneka didn’t kill herself when she found out she was dead. The scene ends with snores…or perhaps buzzing from a horny cyborg.
In which Anneka dreams of her grandmother again.

Since I am doing National Novel Writing Month this year, there will be no scheduled LHF eps for the month of November. We will return on December 4th with season 9.

LHF’s popularity has been growing in the past two months. I attribute this to increased exposure on various message boards. I now post the eps on NeoTokyo and Dollygolightly. Also I have been receiving more responses ever since I started doing the sideline adventures, When No One’s Watching and Goofing Off. People like these, so they compliment on them.
I also like to think that the wider appreciation has to do with my improved photography and lay-out skills. If you read my authorial notes in the past two months, you’ll see that I’ve introduced actual exterior shots and incorporated tri-directional lighting for scenes. More recently, I’ve been experimenting [badly] with night-time shots and also a larger format to provide more scope for realistic detail. Also, I haven’t mentioned it, but I’ve been making my own dialog balloons, a mind-numbing process that nevertheless gives a better flow to the conversations [instead of using already-generated balloons with inappropriately shaped stems]. And I’m making sure that the characters move around when talking, rather than just standing there. Someone please tell me all of this is having a positive effect. :p
In the future, expect an even heavier emphasis on tight, solid story development, historical underpinnings, dramatic close-ups and…of course…boobs. See below for a graphical depiction of LHF’s uptick in approbation. More…

Sailor Zeo mentioned LHF on her list of regularly visited Web comics. I’m copying her comments here for the purposes of convenient self-congratulation.
“Love Has Fangs–Action figure photography and Photoshop, clever writing, sexually confused vampires, workaholic mad scientists, lots and lots of pink hair, and a vibrating android (I wanna see more of him, MW!!). We’ve seen a few different incarnations of this storyline, but the current one is totally capturing my interest. Plus, we get some of Boston’s history, and information about different types of vampiric undead. It’s very well written and played out.”

Attention! We are now on a Monday update schedule now! I am going for quality over quantity.
Anyway, previously in our story… Anneka’s rewrite of The Little Mermaid proves that she, like her main character, STILL hasn’t adequately dealt with the major changes in her life [death?]. Will, fed up with her whining, offers her a job with lesbovamps.com. Anneka spurns him. Will asks whether Mark thinks he’s gay. Mark evades the question. Later on, a representative sample of LHF cast members try to have fun during the Fourth of July. Amazingly enough, Anneka discovers something good about being dead! She then meets up with Michaela, who’s now a repentant religious columnist for the MeMo. Deciding that the vampire newspaper needs “a Chinatown beat,” Anneka interviews the melancholy Chow. Meanwhile, Will chats with ex-suicide Velvette, discovering that they share a passion for self-expression via dramatic clothes. Will then asks Anneka if she thinks he is gay, but she says that it does not matter. Job rejections — including dismissal from the MeMo for not being salacious enough — overwhelm her so she can’t even pay attention when Will comes out as “fabulous.” The season ends on an uncertain note as Anneka’s whining antagonizes Will, but she does manage to reconcile with Pippilotta.
